The Believers book by John Grover

background

theBook

The Believers is about the shift from individual excellence to leading
others — and why that transformation changes everything.

Some lessons can only be learned the hard way.

Two hundred feet up a sandstone wall with a broken ankle, no water, and storm clouds rolling in, I had plenty of time to think about how I got there. Turns out, the same relentless drive that made me a decent wrestler and helped me build a successful business could also get me pinned in a slot canyon, completely dependent on my climbing partners to get home alive.

Funny how that works.

Part adventure memoir, part practical guide, The Believers explores my messy journey from headstrong solo performer to someone who finally figured out that real strength isn't about proving yourself; it's about helping others discover what they're capable of.

We’ll walk through moments of spectacularly poor judgment: a bear encounter in Glacier National Park that taught me the difference between courage and stupidity. The transition from college athlete to first-time manager, where I learned that everything that made me successful individually could work against me as a leader. Building Endsight, where we discovered that creating places where people actually want to work isn't just nice—it's the only way to build something that lasts.

Because when you stop trying to prove how tough you are and start helping others discover how capable they are, something interesting happens. You don't just become a better leader — you create something bigger than what you could achieve alone.

Even if it takes a broken ankle and some very patient climbing partners to figure that out.
